In November, I wrote about John Harrison, the official ice cream tester for Dryer’s and Edy’s Ice Cream. In that blog, I pointed out that to become an ice cream taste tester one should get a college degree in food science, business or chemistry. Well, I should add to that, “or enter a contest.”
In the United Kingdom, Haagen-Dazs held a contest to find their new ice cream taste tester. Hundreds entered, but 27-year-old music teacher, Aelfwyn Shipton, was crowned the winner. Aelfwyn leaves her tiny town of Henllan Amgoed for Haagen-Dazs’ headquarters in France. Her chief responsibility of finding new flavors for the company will take her to Belgium to sample some of the world’s best chocolate.
While her new job is only temporary, she is hoping that Haagen-Dazs is so impressed with her abilities that they bring her on full time.
