My Kind of Hamburger

The ice cream burger.

How do you like your burger? Rare? Medium-rare? Well done? How about with a scoop of ice cream on top? If your answer was yes to that last question, you might want to visit the Indiana State Fair this month. Once you get there, find the Carousel Concessions stand where they are serving up an ice cream burger.

When I first heard about this, I guessed the scoop of ice cream replaced the beef patty. I was wrong. The ground beef is there along lettuce, tomatoes, onions, bacon, cheese and ice cream rolled in cornflakes and cinnamon and fried. Dennis Reas of Carousel Foods introduced the ice cream burger at this year’s Florida State Fair to rave revues. The Indiana State Fair is his third festival for this burger.

The Hot Fudge Sundae Burger. Dinner and dessert in one handy meal.

While this concept was new to me, I did find two restaurants serving something called a Hot Fudge Sundae Burger. Again, it’s a beef patty along with ice cream, but this one is topped off with hot fudge. You can get yours at McGuire’s Irish Pub in Pensacola, Florida or 26 Beach in Venice, California.
