As I proudly professed in my last blog, I love Oreo cookies. It turns out that I’m not alone. The Oreo cookie is America’s best selling cookie! It’s been that way since it was introduced in 1912 by the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco).
I’m not sure what everyone was thinking for the next 71 years because it took that long for someone to finally say, “hey, let’s mix everyone’s favorite cookie with everyone’s favorite vanilla ice cream!”
When Cookies ‘n’ Cream ice cream debuted in 1982, it shot up the list of best-selling ice cream flavors to the number 5 slot — the fastest climb of a new ice cream flavor in history. I’m guessing the person who came up with that new flavor got a very nice corner office — among other things.
It would please me to no end if my new Cookies ‘n’ Cream Ice Cream Roll has a similar appeal. I make my cookie’s ‘n’ cream treat with premium vanilla ice cream, mix in broken bits of my own special chocolate cookie with vanilla creme, then cover the entire roll in chocolate cookie crunch. I don’t mean to sound arrogant, but “move over other cookies ‘n’ cream, there’s a new ice cream treat in town”! Sorry. I’m just really excited about this one!
